Description

I am a private Collector from Rome, Italy I have just decided to sell another of my hard to find Subminiature Cameras to this Auction.

If you are a serious camera collector here's a wonderful find for you.

This Auction is for the round body PETAL made by Sakura Seiki Co., Japan, in NEAR MINT condition (with the normal use during the Cold War years! ) and with all the original outfits that you can see from the pictures .

The Camera's Condition.....  The Shutter still fires as good as the day it was made and the rest of the little camera is also in great condition, with "NO CHIPS or CRACKS" anywhere. The Lens and Viewfinder glass elements are all clear and intact. Cosmetically the camera is in excellent condition .

The Petal on sale is coming with :

-  his Original Can Wood little square box

- his Original instructions sheet

- his 25mm film disc  into his original card box holder ( see pics ) ;

even if the film - inside the disch - is expired it is something very Collectible.

These outfits are very rare and hard to find specially in these good conditions and all together ,  as you can see by the photos make this a very Collectible item !!

(A bit of History)...This original round Petal which  was first manufactured by the St. Peter Optical Company of Japan in 1948. This is more common early model, made by Petal Kogaru Co. Pre-dates the Sakura octagonal model. At an inch and a quarter round, it was the smallest production camera of that time. It had a simple fixed focus 12 mm f/5.6 lens and 1 shutter. A round film disk is fitted into the back of the camera. Like the Photoret, the Stirn's Vest Camera and other round cameras which used a single sheet of round film, the Petal moved the film into position behind the lens by rotating the rear half of the camera. In the case of the Petal, rotating the back moved the 25 mm disk of film so that individual 6mm images could be made.  This camera was manufactured by the Sakura Seiki Company with its  can wood little square box, instruction sheet : fully complete and all original. This camera is about as small as they come - it is only 1 1/8 inches in diameter!  The Petal is actually listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's smallest camera ever produced (here's a link to some of the camera's history: http://www.subclub.org/library/mypetal.htm).  It has little mechanical clutter beyond a viewfinder, lens, and selector wheel.  It produces six 6mm circular images on a 25mm film disc, and shutter speeds can be set to B and I.  The lens is a fixed-focus 12mm f5.6 lens.  There is also a small metal piece that can be slid to the side from the viewfinder to prevent the shutter from accidentally triggering.
