This is a rare 1/2 Plate SHEW ALUMINIUM XIT CAMERA
It is an excellent Shew polishes mahogany and aluminium Xit plate camera in 1/2 plate size c1900. The camera has an Aldis Lens set in a Bausch and Lomb pneumatic shutter and shows signs of light use. The lens glasses are clean and unscratched and the shutter is in working order on all speeds, but they cannot be guaranteed accurate The cosmetic condition of the polished mahogany camera body is very good, with only a few minor defects and scuffs commensurate with moderate use. The leather bellows are generally very good.
There are a number of scratches to the aluminium fittings. Although they retain their original lacquer finish. The inside of the camera is good with no significant wear and it has the rear ground glass screen A good example of this scarce collectable camera, which is supplied with a canvas case, in poor condition but still usable and 3 original film slides. The top panel and the focussing lever are marked 'Shew and Co' and 'Xit' Approx size when open 8 x 8.5 x 5.5ins (20x21x13cms)
